We live in a world that is highly centralized.
For better or worse, it's where things stand.
Centralized government.
Centralized schooling.
Centralized health care.
Centralized economic planning.
And as time has passed on these institutions they've become top heavy.
I'm sure many of us will agree that there are more bureaucrats in each of those areas than are necessary.
And there are strange second order effects to all this...
It creates a class of people that will vote to keep the status quo because they believe they are benefitting from it.
They're mostly semi-satisfied with a centrally planned life.
But there's another group of people out there.
They may be quiet, but they exist and it feels like their numbers are growing.
A group of people who want self-sovereignty, the ability to choose the direction of one's own life...with less central planning.
Their life, on their terms.
And that's why it's an absolute honour to host the Your Life. Your Terms. Events.
That's the sign from a recent one, pictured above...glowing in the early morning hours as we were about to get going.
And the next one is less than 48 hours away, this Saturday.
To get a group of people together of this size, that are critical thinkers and who take responsibility for their own lives, is pretty rare.
But the spirit and energy that comes from such people is powerful.
You can feel it. And it's growing.
To me that sign represents our ability to choose our own path.
To carve out our own futures.
To live a meaningful life, full of surprises, fun, great relationships and constant growth...ready to tackle all the wild twists and turns of living in the moment.
When we quit our jobs to start this journey we had no idea that we'd get to hang out with such wonderful people.
Or that we would get so many to show up on a Saturday morning to talk about real estate, economics, personal growth and global mega trends.
It's been a blessing.
At one point we thought if we could get 35 people to meet us in the Canadian Tire parking lot in Oakville on a Saturday...to then take a tour of Hamilton student rental properties together...it would be a huge win.

A real estate investor who helps other investors maximize their cash flow on existing properties.
An American developer who is flying in to share the mistakes they are seeing Canadians make as we enter the U.S. market.
The top Bitcoin educator in the world, flying in from Calgary via Nashville, to be with us all for a live workshop.
For context, our first event ever had 60 people, our accountant and my wife baked homemade cookies for everyone.
These things have grown, just a little.
And we're not a big event company. We're a local real estate brokerage in Oakville, Ontario trying to do our best to share and learn together with our clients.
This Saturday we're going to focus on the big trends that are coming our way...several of which are in process right now.
And how we can all ride those trends to help us live life on our own terms.
Back in 2010 it became obvious to us that low interest rates were going to be around for a very long time.
We took that trend and rode real estate prices from $215K on the Hamilton Mountain to $850K. The size and length of that ride was even larger than we were expecting.
Your ability to spot big trends and jump on them as they begin is one of the easiest ways to propel yourself into financial freedom.
I saw it with tech in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
So many people laughed at Amazon, chuckled at Facebook, and dismissed both Twitter and Salesforce.com.
Each of those grew empires.
Those who were in early profited handsomely.
Today I see the same laughter again as energy, computing power, and artificial intelligence are making new moves.
