I Purchased 800+ Books & Here Are My Top 5

Message from Tom and Nick
OK, look…
Summer is coming to and end and it’s back to school time.
So let’s get serious (well sort of serious anyway)….
Back in my 20s I was super eager to change the course of my life.
I was in the corporate world making good money but I felt trapped. I felt trapped by the limited vacation, the cap on my income, and the politics of that whole world.
So I turned to books.
That’s a picture of a box of “extra” books that I don’t know what to do with. Actually there are 5 boxes like that in my house right now and that’s not including the books I have on shelves.
And if I look back on how lucky Nick and I have been over the last 25 years or so, I’d day some of those books played a huge role.
They changed the way we thought, which changed the way we felt, which changed the way we behaved.
And after a few years of that, almost like magic, the world around us began to change.
This is gonna sound wild, but as our inner selves changed, our outer world followed.
If you’re at a time in life where you’re ready for change and don’t want to doom scroll your socials, it may be time to tuck yourself away each morning for 60 minutes with a good book.
Here are the ones that changed my life back in my 20s that are still 100% applicable today:
1. Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
A classic. Made me understand how money works, how the subconscious mind works, and made me begin to believe anything is possible for me.
2. The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma
Underrated in my opinion. A simple, quick read that made me question the life path I was on. It’s written in story format and is super impactful. I think I credit this book for being the thing that made me certain I need to quit my job and make a great life change.
3. How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Wow. This one made me understand how people work. We come from a family that didn’t respect sales people and this book changed my thinking completely and taught me that you don’t have to be a “used car salesman” type to be successful in life and sales. But it was more powerful than just that…it made me understand how to offer value and how to treat people properly. Absolute game changer.
4. Personal Power II by Tony Robbins
OK, this one isn’t a book. Someone gave me a tape set of this program and, at the time, I think Tony already had new programs that I eventually listened to. But nothing compared to this series. I think it’s like 20-30 hours of audio and it’ll change your life. I must have listened to it on repeat on and off for 3 years, LOL! If you can get your hands on it I’d listen to it today.
5. The 7 Habits Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
Might be a masterpiece, LOL! This is where I first learned about an Eisenhower Matrix. And that matrix would go on to be responsible for changing my daily output from a 4 to a 9 for about 10 years straight. It helped create the momentum that would then change my world. A++.
And you know why I bought books?
Because Nick and I didn’t have real life mentors. These books were our mentors.
But I would have given the world to speak with those authors in-person.
And guess what?
If you’re reading this and you’re in the GTHA and you want to come out and chat with us face-to-face about real estate, life, investing and creating a life on your terms then you’re in luck.
