This is Keith...
A proud member of the marketing team at Rock Star.
I'm taking over for Tom today...
Why?
Because I've got a story to share.
A personal one.
But first...
Look at the picture above that I took during my recent trip to India.
That's my POV of a sunset at a beach in Mumbai.
I snapped it right before flying back to Canada this May.
Growing up, that beach was my second home.
Sometimes for studying...
But mostly for playing.
Man, those were the days.
That moment in front of the sunset got me thinking of this very important time in my life...
When I was 26 and in a senior position at an international call center, I had a big decision to make...
Move up the ladder and make my family proud...
Or...
Bet on myself, and see if I could cut it as a marketer.
It was a big decision.
And one I struggled with...
On one hand, I was growing at the call center.
That was a good job.
One that paid well and had a potential transfer to Ireland...
And if I kept that job, I knew my parents would be proud.
But on the other hand...
I knew I wasn't cut out to be someone sitting behind a desk and reading out scripts.
Why?
Cause I hated jobs where there was zero creativity and everything had to be done by the book.
That was true when I worked at a print company as a network engineer...
It was true when I did a part-time gig at a cyber cafe.
I had no motivation in those jobs.
So I never showed up excited.
However...
Marketing, that lit a fire.
Why?
Cause results mattered.
I only got noticed when my social media campaigns went viral.
So if I just did the bare minimum...
I wouldn't make any progress in my career.
But if I was ambitious...
And I got good at Paid Ads...
And I learned about conversions...
And I pushed for lead generation...
Then I'd rise.
And rise I did.
Cause I went from being a social media associate
To becoming a marketing manager...
And that earned me enough points to immigrate to Canada
And land a job here at Rock Star
Which was crazy.
That was a life-changing experience for me at the time.
I never dreamed I'd be the kind of guy who could go from taking calls in a cubicle...
To running multi-million dollar campaigns.
But it happened.
And the reason that happened is because I started believing in myself...
I put the responsibility on my shoulders...
I took all the risk...
I weathered the mockery when I went against society's norms...
And because I was willing to do that...
When things eventually swung my way...
I was the one who reaped the rewards.
But that only happened cause I dared to bet on myself...
So if I could leave you one thing today...
It's this...
Bet on yourself.
If you want the big rewards...
Like the money...
And to live life on your terms…
You can't just follow the typical path...
You have to be willing to bet on yourself.
