At the Your Life. Your Terms. Event this past weekend one of the biggest post-event follow-ups was for the list of books that we shared.
In today's world of constant distraction, it's more important than ever to carve out some quiet time for yourself to focus on your own development.
Nick shared a stat that the typical millennial now checks their smartphone 143 times a day.
Your ability to find time alone with your own thoughts may be the single biggest gift you can give yourself over the next decade.
For us, that's often early in the morning before the family wakes up or during a quiet lunch hour.
We've found that our very best ideas for our family, our investing and our lives, come from quiet times of "thinking".
Once your mindset is set correctly your actions take on new power.
It's almost as if the power of your intentions is magnified because the conviction in your actions is obvious for the world to see.
Let me explain...
At this weekend's event, we shared some notes from a conference I attended that was all about working on your mindset.
That was in 2003.
Nick and I continued to read, think, plan... read more, think more, plan more... for several years.
During that time we picked up super valuable experiences in sales, speaking and real estate.
And then almost at once in 2006 we were ready and launched our own business.
Nick worked on it full-time immediately. In early 2007 I quit my job.
We focused like crazy on it.
Our families suffered for it by not having us around as much.
A couple years later Rock Star Real Estate was born.
A few years later we helped investors buy over $100,000,000 in investment property.
Sometime last year we crossed over $500,000,000.
Can you believe that?
From zero to over $500,000,000 in properties bought or sold (mostly bought).
And we aren't stopping.
In 2003 while I was writing my notes at that conference I would have never dreamed that in 2010 we would start vacationing in Croatia with our families for a month each summer... in a sea-side condo that we owned!
In five years our lives changed from "corporate world" to "our life on our terms".
7 stinking years!
That seems quick, doesn't it?
From the day we wrote those notes to the start of our business... 3 years.
From the day those notes were jotted down to quitting my job... 4 years.
Today in 2015, a full 12 years later from the day those notes were written, we have an amazing team at Rock Star of 30 people all doing their own amazing things.
We feel blessed, grateful and privileged all at the same time.
But we strongly believe that aside from all the real estate stuff, marketing systems and sales one of the most important ingredients to our own journey has been working on ourselves.
And we still do.
We still have doubts, we still get confused on our next steps and we still question ourselves all the time.
But working on our mindset has made it all easier.
If you've drifted away from giving yourself some "me time" maybe it's time to bring it back into your life.
If you're not getting the results you want in your life right now maybe step back for a little while and evaluate your thinking and your attitude.
Until next time... Your Life! Your Terms!
