What has happened?
I went to school, got good marks, honour roll the whole way, over 90% average in a few grades, went to university, got a good job…
…bought real estate, read many books on finance, quit the good job, started working with my brother…
…now I wear pirate costumes at the office.
Where did it all go so wrong? LOL!!!!

Our theme for this event is Pirates of the Caribbean, if it’s not obvious, LOL.
We started these events back in 2008 (time flies!!) with about 60 people in the basement of the Holiday Inn off the QEW in Oakville, Ontario.
The goal was to share a few ideas and maybe a few economic insights that we felt were helping us and some of our clients.
Basically, could we host an event where we could share information with each other, “from the streets and in real time”, and help each other pull ourselves up? That was the idea.
It seems to have worked.
Now we get 1,000+ people in a room and jam in more information into a few hours than we ever thought possible!
And the guests we have on who volunteer to speak (we never pay anyone) have been top quality.
At this YLYT Event on Saturday October 5, 2024, here’s what’s going on…
1. INSIGHTS: We have the CEO of one of the largest real estate capital allocators in the country, Peter Politis, going to sit down with Nick and pull back the curtain on what he’s seeing “the big money” in real estate doing right now.
This chat will be full of the latest local market updates and new trends that are developing in real estate.
2. LIVE REAL ESTATE UPDATES: There’s going to be a panel with a 32-year-old from Toronto turning single family lots in 10-unit properties with 2-storey laneway housing…yes, he’s turning a single family lot into infill, missing middle, 10-unit housing that are absolutely stunning to look at.
We have an expert in rental rates in Ontario coming in to share what’s the very latest on rents across the province! Real time data!
And on this panel there’s also a young developer who has gone from doing single family home rentals to developing 60-unit buildings.
3. CASH FLOW: A key member of the Rock Star team, Mike Desormeaux, is going to share how savvy investors are able to create cash flow and even increase cash flow on existing properties!
4. U.S. REAL ESTATE: We have an American real estate investing pro flying in to share the 7 mistakes Canadians are making right now when they’re buying in the USA.
He’ll share locations, insurance, forecasts, and more. This isn’t theory, this is real live data.
5. BITCOIN: We have one of the best Bitcoin educators on planet earth, Ben Perrin aka BTC Sessions, flying in to do a LIVE Workshop on holding your Bitcoin, using it to make instant payments and converting it from CAD to BTC.
Ben has a YouTube channel with over 300K subscribers, speaks globally, and he’s a Canadian from Alberta!
6. CANADIAN ECONOMIC UPDATE: We’re sharing a brand new Rock Star Economic Update. This is where we share some of the data we’re looking at so we can plan next steps for ourselves and our families as best as possible.
This economic update started as 14 slides back in 2008…now it’s a monster 50-minute talk jammed with information that takes us about 3 months to collect and a week of work to assemble into a presentation.

So…
Why. are we doing all this?
Well first, because we can. We’re blessed and grateful.
Second, we wish something like this existed when we started out!
When we started out investing we felt alone, scared, broke, clueless sometimes and lacking a bit of conviction in our decisions.
We find that hanging out with other action takers, who are local and who have similar mindsets and goals is inspiring.
And look…
With inflation and M2 Money Supply in Canada increasing at a compounded rate of 7% annually we all need to help each other as best we can.
It’s near impossible to predict what rate of inflation is coming our way.
When we started the Rock Star Economic Update, the U.S. debt was at $8 Trillion.
Today, 16 years later, it’s at $35 Trillion.
And remember, whatever the US does, Canada does…so we’re piling on the debt here too.
How can you possibly plan for your retirement when you don’t know how much new CAD or USD is going to be printed into existence?
Are you using the official CPI number? Hope not!
Are you using 5% inflation? 7%?
We use 12% as the minimum and 15% “to be safe”.
That’s just to protect your buying power. If you grow your investments at those rates you’re not getting ahead if inflation matches the rate.
It’s more important than ever to pay attention to this stuff.
That’s not hyperbole, it’s fact. The inflation train is picking up speed, it’s not slowing down as some may believe.
