Looking back there were two things that we studied pretty deeply before we quit that have made all the difference. So if you're frustrated where you are now, instead of looking for what business to start, focus on these two skills, and eventually, the right business opportunity will present itself...

Hey everyone, it's Tom Karadza. And lately, I don't know what it is. We've been getting a lot of career advice-type questions and it frustrates me that we don't have the perfect answer. So, there are kind of two ways I want to answer this career advice from two different perspectives. It's coming from a lot of people who will say, “Well Tom, you know, how did you and Nick quit your jobs? What were the steps to quit your job?” And then someone else from another perspective will say, “I know I should quit my job. I don't know if I'm going to survive the market if it goes up and down and I get into business for myself.”
So, here's one way we can frame the answer. We really didn't know what we wanted to do in business. You know, although we own Rock Star Real Estate now, and it's a brokerage, and we kind of help people and are forever grateful for that, we didn't know what we wanted to do. We just knew we wanted to quit our job, so that’s what we did. We found a little niche that a lot of people don't understand, sales and marketing. So, even though we were in our career working, we spent an enormous amount of time studying sales and marketing, how to get clients, even in big corporations, the sales team doesn't always know how to get clients. They depend on marketing for that and the marketing division doesn't necessarily know how to close business.
So, if you are going to go into business for yourself, and you can master these skills, it's hugely beneficial to you. So, we've spent a lot, 2,3,4,5 five years. I even went into sales to learn it deeper in the company that I was in before I quit. So, if you're looking to quit your job and you don't know what you're going to do, wherever you are right now, start spending time in marketable skill development, understanding sales, and marketing. Read about sales and marketing. Look at people who are doing sales and marketing and reverse engineer how they're getting clients and closing business and then eventually you'll find the business you want to go into and you can apply those skills into that business and you'll be much better than your competition because very few people know how to do that effectively. So, hopefully, that gives you a little bit to think about. So, until next time, your life your terms.
