Little Known White Wine Tip & Some Sunny Summer Inspiration...

Message from Tom and Nick

OK, it's summer, so I'm going to indulge a little and share another food- and drink-related bit of information.

(We'll get back to serious real estate and economic matters shortly, promise!! But it's summer, let's have some fun for a minute!)

We covered olive oils a while back, and our mention of "sourdough" bread unleashed a response that we didn't anticipate at all.

Who knew how passionate we all are about good food!

Today, I want to share a little something about wine that most people don't know.

I don't drink very much alcohol. I'm basically down to white wines and maybe the odd glass of good tequila.

That's it for me. I mean, there are exceptions, of course, but not many.

I used to be a red wine guy, but lately they just don't sit well.

So now I stick to super-dry white wines. Low sugar content works best for me, the lower the better.

And here's what many people don't know...

Not all "extra dry" white wines are the same. Their sugar content varies greatly.

You can find an extra dry (XD) white wine at the LCBO with 6g of sugar per litre and one with 2g.

And that difference matters. The lower the better for my enjoyment and how I feel afterward.

So if you're looking to try a dry white wine and want the lowest possible sugar content, check the LCBO card...it lists the sugar per litre right there.

Here's the card from the picture above, zoomed in...

See how it says XD - 3g/L? That's what you're looking for in a good dry white, in my humble opinion.

I will go up to 4g/L on exception, but it's rare. I'm looking for 3g/L or ideally, 2g/L.

You can find some great ones at 2g/L if you tour around the LCBO long enough, LOL! They aren't common, but they're out there!

So next time you're in there looking for a white wine, pay attention to the sugar content. You may find there's a sweet spot for you that works well for your enjoyment and your body.

For me, the lower the better!!

And as for the wine in this picture, it's new at the LCBO and had a lower sugar content, so I was just testing out a bottle. I spend a lot of time in the store hunting for the best, low-sugar, dry white wine.

LOL!!

OK, this week we're keeping things light...

Last week, we shared some mindset stuff with you, and this week we're following up with some favourite quotes we have collected over the years.

I was cleaning up some old notes and stumbled upon these.

Ready? Here we go...

“How high you rise in your life will be determined not by how hard you work, but how well you think.” – Robin Sharma

“Mistakes are great. The more I make, the smarter I get.” – R. Buckminster Fuller

“Live like a hero. That’s what the classics teach us. Be a main character. Otherwise, what is life for?” – J.M. Coetzee

“The successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don't like to do. They don't like doing them either, necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.” – Albert E. Gray

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.” – Dale Carnegie

“Your life is not determined by what happens to you, but by how you respond to what happens." – Eckhart Tolle

“The purpose of life, as far as I can tell, is to find a mode of being that’s so meaningful that the fact that life is suffering is no longer relevant.” – Jordan Peterson

“Here is my secret. It is very simple: it is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” – Anne Lamott

“Forgiveness is not forgetting. Forgiveness is freedom from hate.” – Valarie Kaur

One of my favourite books, which I've somehow recently misplaced, is Jim Rohn's Treasury of Quotes.

When I was younger and maybe having a bad day or struggling with something, I'd pop that open and read a few pages of inspirational quotes, and somehow it would get me back on track.

Do you have any habits that you use to correct course, even in the smallest way?

Maybe it's a glass of extra-dry, low-sugar white wine and a good book on a backyard patio? Sounds perfect to me, LOL!!

That's it for this week—hope you're enjoying the summer!!
