13 Years of Discipline... and Private Boats

Message from Tom and Nick

Hello, from the Adriatic sea!

We've been over here in Croatia with the families for a while now... enjoying the sunshine, the food, the vino, and the beaches!!

That picture above is of a little coastal town with the moonlight shimmering across the Adriatic.

And yeah, it's not a sunset...that's moonlight. The moon was so full and bright about a week ago that it lit up like a giant light bulb in the sky.

This week we're out on the Croatian islands and the moon has disappeared but the stars in the sky have been incredibly bright. It's beautiful.

Last night, I saw three shooting stars with huge long sparkling tails... incredible.

We always get some good perspective on life over here.

There's something about stepping away from your usual environment that's so helpful in getting fresh ideas.

We're going to share a bunch of that with Rock Star members, and the VIP Group is getting a first look at our completed Your Life! Your Terms! Blueprint & YLYT Scorecard later this month.

But today I'd like to share something else...

When we first started coming to Croatia with the kids 17 years ago we would take a 3-hour ferry to the islands.

It was slow, hot, stuffy (we were on the lower deck with windows and no a/c) and when we finally got some food the only thing they had were grilled fish with bones in.

It wasn't exactly "kid friendly" food.

Then we'd get about 2 hours on the island beach only to take another 3-hour ferry back to the mainland.

We were grateful to be able to do it but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I'd stare out at the other private boats zipping along on the water and wonder "who are those people and how do we get on one of those?"

Well, over the years we've moved on from the ferry and are now one of the families on those boats I used to look at out of the ferry window.

I mean we're not bragging or anything...there's literally nothing to brag about.

But I do reflect on how exactly we went from the ferry to our own boat.

And the thing that comes to mind is this saying...

The curse of discipline is that every day looks the same. The curse of indiscipline is that every year does.

Over the years Nick and I have been very disciplined. Doing the same things over and over again.

We literally ran the same business processes, without much change, from 2007 to 2020. Same weekly, monthly activities, and quarterly annual activities...for 13 years without change.

And that mundane approach and grind was able to build up some resources and opportunities for us that we always thought might be possible...but naturally were never quite sure.

So we can tell you with absolute certainty that discipline pays off.
Chasing shiny objects, in business or investing, never does.

Anyway...that's what's on our mind this week.

Hope you're loving life wherever you are today.

Cheers to you and your family!

And to living life on your terms!

Tom & Nick
